The Trials of Eve
            The work explores in visual and poetic form the history of woman based on the ancient story
            of  Adam and Eve.  This is a pictoral and verbal narrative in the form of a three- act play,
            describing Eve's courtroom trial and subsequent tribulations. The disturbing drama ends on a

        About the Hardcover Limited Edition :

        First published in 1989 in a limited edition of 100 copies, it is now a collector's item, found
        in Special  Collections of  Public Art Galleries and University Fine Art Libraries  in Canada,
        the U.S. and France.

        This edition was awarded the 1989 Alcuin Citation Award for book design, the only one of its
        kind in Canada.There are 12 full colour tipped in images accompanied by twelve poems in
        English and French. The hardcover edition also contains an original woodcut, pictured below:

                The Trials of Eve is published in an edition of 100 copies on mold-made acid-free
                Frankfurt paper, bound in full cloth and placed in a printed dust wrapper.

                The design is by is by Crispin Elsted, the hand setting and press work by Jan Elsted
                and Joy Tataryn.

                The colour plates were made at Benwell Atkins Ltd. from the original works. The books were
                bound at Rasmunssen Binderey.

             The original works (12 mixed media paintings on paper, 30" x 22" are available
                for exhibition).

                The soft cover edition was published in 1993 in an edition of 500  and is still available for
                sale.

                A film, The Trials of Eve, by Gretchen Jordan-Bastow was launched in 1990 at the Pacific
                Cinemateque in Vancouver and later shown at the UNESCO International Art Film
                Festival in Paris.
